You can’t honestly expect Toph Bei Fong to make things easy for you whether it’s in cosplay construction or otherwise. As such, this costume was an undertaking indeed, complete with a wig I constructed myself, a vinyl main armor piece, some wonderflex elements, some dance shoes so I can go largely barefoot at con, blind-eye contacts that diminish some vision, and even riveted metal for some of the armor.  Making it took some blood (cutting metal can be dangerous), some sweat (no self-respecting earthbender would wear the costume without practicing some earthbending-esque kata first), and the occasional tear but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Anything worthwhile has its difficult parts and making this costume, and subsequently wearing it, has been worthwhile indeed.  My favorite costume I’ve ever made/worn.
