My first Con I attended was New York Anime Fest 2009. Baldwin one of my best friends and brothers, introduced me into the Comic Con life. I was very amazed at what I saw and of course me already being a comicbook fan, I lost my mind when I was there! I thought I was literally in another world.
Life in Iraq:
On my down time, I talked to family and friends back home, most of my cosplayer friends I met online through other friends. We spoke about attending future Cons when I got back home. While I was in Iraq, I got the idea of wanting to Cosplay at a future con. Although I was very much into comics, I wasn't quite sure which character I'd be best as. So I asked Baldwin and he said he would get back to me on it. Finally he came up with DeadPool, he said I'm very much like the character already outside of the costume. So, I put my mind to it, started reading DeadPool comics, to get the history of the character, finally I decided, that's who I needed to work on. I knew DeadPool from reading XForce comics when I was a kid, but the xforce comics never really showed the DeadPool everyone knows and loves today.
My Own Style of Cosplaying Characters:
While I was in Iraq, I assumed and decided, I'd need a different look compared to everyone else who Cosplayed DeadPool. I didn't want to be just another DeadPool at a Con. I wanted to be The Baddest Looking DeadPool there ever was. Which Motivated me to put together my own style and ideas into the very same character. Since everyone loves my tattoos, I decided I want to show them off, as well as my physique. I workout all the time, and figured short sleeves would best show it. But of course I still wanted to keep it as close to portraying the original character as possible at the same time. I also wanted a more realistic look, what you would call a movie look. Which is why I decided Motorcycle gear would be best for that, plus also look good on me. The hardest part was matching up all the colors. But, it's a risk I gladly take, to ensure I will have a very eye catchy and creative look.
Character:
Of course with Cosplay, I believe everyone who decides to Cosplay, should at least be able to be in character, or even try. I know no one is perfect and everyone should be able to share this lifestyle, no matter who they are, age, size, gender, and race, everyone and anyone can be a cosplayer. But back to character, cosplayers should know the history of the character, cosplay is not halloween, it's not about someone just throwing on a costume to look good or sexy, although I see many people who do that, I don't approve.
Motivation:
I'm a very adventurous person, as well as a very imaginative one. Once I place my mind on something I make sure to get it done, but also to have fun in the process. As long as I have an idea, that alone is my motivation, to see it become a reality.
